Panikkos Vakkou appointed Vice Chairman of CySEC

Panikkos Vakkou is the new Vice Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), following the departure of George Karatzias to join the Board of the Directors of the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) as an Executive Member.

Vakkou has been a member of the CySEC Board since 19 January 2024. According to InBusinessNews’ sources, the Council of Ministers decided to appoint Vakkou in its 29 May session.

Panikkos Vakkou is the Director of Operations and Credit Risk Manager at Haogen Technologies and a CFA Charterholder.

He was previously a Director at RiskMatrix, Moody’s Analytics regional partner between 2016 and 2022.

He also has an extensive background in banking; specifically, from 2014-2016 he was a Restructuring Officer in the Large Exposure Management Department of the Cooperative Central Bank.

In 2009 he joined the Cyprus Popular Bank Public and in 2013 the Bank of Cyprus.

He holds a MSc in Mathematical Finance and a BSc (Hons.) in Mathematics with Statistics at the University of Manchester.
