Registered unemployed drop 12.3% y-o-y in January

Registered unemployed persons in Cyprus dropped by an annual 12.3% in January, according to the data by the District Labour Offices released by Cystat.

The number of registered unemployed persons on the last day of January 2024 reached 14,699, marking a decrease of 2,059 persons - or 12.3%.

The reduction was mainly driven by the sectors of financial and insurance activities, construction, trade, accommodation and food service activities, as well as to the decrease recorded for newcomers in the labour market.

Based on the seasonally adjusted data that show the trend of unemployment, the number of registered unemployed for January 2024 decreased to 11,897 persons in comparison to 11,935 in the previous month, Cystat added.
