Having been inaugurated by the First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, a new art gallery has now opened its doors, aiming to enrich the cultural scene not only of Limassol but of Cyprus at large.
As noted in a press release following the 10 December opening, XeniArtSpace, located at the west tower of the Trilogy in Limassol is a museum-level gallery featuring artists from the 20th century until today of global magnitude and importance, some of them hosted in Cyprus for the very first time.
Founded by Xenia Kulbachevskaya, an art collector for many years, XeniArtSpace is a specially designed gallery that features art pieces by worldwide acclaimed artists such as Marc Chagall, Kees van Dongen, Ólafur Elísson, Studio Drift, Tadashi Kawamata, Chun Kwang Young and many more international as well as Cypriot ones.
In her inaugurating speech, the First Lady applauded the opening of the new gallery and underlined the fact that this is the result of the founder’s passion for the arts and her wish to enrich the cultural scene of Cyprus which is now her new homeland.
Karsera Christodoulides was pleased to note that XeniArtSpace will be open for the public for free to come visit and enjoy the work of worldwide artists that are not easily found here in Cyprus or who are featured in our country for the very first time and stated that “This is indeed an excellent opportunity for all citizens and particularly the younger generations to expand their horizons and enjoy a high level cultural experience.”
In welcoming her guests, the gallery’s founder Xenia Kulbachevskaya underlined the fact that “Galleries are not only places to visit and buy art but also places where every single painting or art piece can take someone on a journey. I hope that tonight you will open your hearts and souls to experience this space!” She also noted that the mission of the gallery’s team is to promote positivity, aesthetics and to encourage creative development. She continued, wishing that “May this gallery serve as a place where collectors, artists and art enthusiasts find joy and inspiration!”
XeniArtSpace Gallery is a space dedicated to exploring the evolution of art through the lens of the interaction of various forms and ideas. The gallery’s permanent collection, spanning artworks from the 20th and 21st centuries, is curated based on the founder’s personal taste, making it especially unique. The focus is not only on global recognition of the artists but on the creation of a living, dynamic collection, where artworks resonate with each other, creating a narrative about both the collector’s personal style and the development of art as a whole.
As noted in the press release, all the works share a common theme of the spiral progression of art and the dialogue between artists addressing similar themes and forms of expression. It should also be noted that the palette of the collection is largely inspired by the nature of Cyprus, with predominant tones of blue, green, and sandy hues, capturing the island’s essence. XeniArtSpace also highlights two essential themes: the role of women in art and the presence of Cypriot artists in the international dialogue. The gallery seeks to connect the island with the global art world. By showcasing Cypriot artists in dialogue with international movements, XeniArtSpace aims to foster cultural exchange and demonstrate the richness of Cypriot contributions to the broader artistic landscape.
In the upstairs temporary collection, the works of another distinguished artist and photographer Vadim Levin, who has moved to Cyprus and made it his new base, capture under the title of “Abstract Iceland”, the stunning scenery of the Icelandic scenery whose unique colours and unparalleled beauty are truly captivating. The said exhibition explores the intersection of photography and abstract expressionism.
