Embassy of Sweden to host 'Sustainable Tourism for the Future' event

The Embassy of Sweden is today, 28 November, hosting an event entitled 'Sustainable Tourism for the Future' in Nicosia.

According to a relevant announcement, "This initiative, part of the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to promote the Green Transition, aims to bring together stakeholders from the tourism industry, municipalities, and other beneficiaries of green solutions for an inspiring day focused on how innovative technologies can protect the environment while at the same time saving energy and reducing costs."

A highlight of the event will be the participation of the Efficiency Manager from Quality Hotel Strawberry Arena, the biggest hotel in Stockholm, who will share insights on how their hotel achieved near-zero emissions.

As noted in the announcement, this success was made possible by systematically tackling challenges like water and electricity consumption, plastic use, and food waste—areas that were rigorously monitored and continuously improved.

From Cyprus, representatives of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the Department of Environment, as well as the President of the Nicosia District, and the President of the Famagusta branch of the Cyprus Hoteliers Association will share their perspectives and experiences in advancing sustainable tourism and the Green Transition.

Additionally, several innovative Swedish companies have travelled to Cyprus to present their cutting-edge solutions tailored to the tourism industry.

These offerings include: Waste heat recovery systems, Reusable water bottles, Water- and energy-saving shower technologies, Sustainable garden products, Energy-efficient heat pumps, and AI-driven sustainability solutions for smart city management

The participating companies include Enjay, Glacial Bottles, Husqvarna/Pantelis Papadopolos S.A., Orbital Systems, NIBE/Θέρμογκαζ LTD and Yodiwo.

"The event underscores Sweden's commitment to sustainability and its dedication to fostering impactful partnerships that drive progress in the tourism sector," the announcement concluded.
