IMR Research pinpoints the popular retailers

According to a study by the IMR/University of Nicosia™, Cypriot consumers spend up to €154 monthly on online food and beverage purchases and up to €1,334 annually on fashion and clothing. Notably, older consumers tend to spend more across all categories compared to younger ones.

The most popular online shopping destination is Shein, with platforms like Foody and Wolt also frequently used. The study's findings were presented by Christina Kokkalou, Founder and Managing Director of IMR/University of Nicosia™, at the recent 16th E-Commerce Conference.

- 64% of consumers prefer ordering through digital platforms, while 28% shop directly from the business's online store.

- Top retailers: Foody (56%) and Wolt (48%).

- Monthly online spending:

- Gen Z: €90

- Millennials: €154

Fashion and Clothing

- 72% of consumers shop through businesses' online stores, 36% use digital platforms offering a wider range of options, and one in three shop via the business's social media online store.

- Top retailers: Shein (48%), Zara (38%), Best Secret (24%), and Temu (22%).

- Annual online spending:

- Gen Z: €1,000

- Millennials: €1,334

- Gen X: €1,200

Electronics and Technology

- Consumers primarily shop through the business's online store (68%) or digital platforms (32%).

- Top retailers: eBay (42%), Amazon (38%), and Public (36%).

- Annual online spending:

- Gen Z: €1,000

- Millennials: €1,200

- Gen X: €1,100

Beauty and Cosmetics

- Consumers prefer shopping through the business's online store (58%) or digital platforms (42%).

- Top retailers: Sephora (38%), Beauty Line (36%), and Lookfantastic (34%).

- Annual online spending:

- Gen Z: €500

- Millennials: €600

- Gen X: €550

Home Goods and Furniture

- Consumers shop through the business's online store (62%) or digital platforms (38%).

- Top retailers: IKEA (48%), JYSK (42%), and Leroy Merlin (36%).

- Annual online spending:

- Gen Z: €800

- Millennials: €1,000

- Gen X: €900

These insights highlight the evolving online shopping habits of Cypriot consumers across various categories and age groups.
