Frederick University workshop on CSRD and impact of ESG on corporate risk and financing

Frederick University's Department of Business Administration and the Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship, Finance, and Strategy (CERFS) are organising a workshop on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) on corporate risk and financing, which will be held on Wednesday, 27 November, from 16:00 to 19:00, at Frederick University in Nicosia (Seminar Room 1 - 1st floor - 7, Y. Frederickou str., Pallouriotissa).

The workshop is titled "The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) on corporate risk and financing" and it will be conducted in English. It is offered free of charge and is designed for company executives who need to prepare for the upcoming implementation of the European CSRD Directive, which requires companies to submit an annual Sustainability Report on their performance and practices in three key areas: environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and corporate governance.

Participants are invited to explore recent developments in ESG regulations and corporate policy. The event will focus on explaining the new Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and its impact on firms' required investments in ESG. It will also provide an initial look at the influence of ESG on corporate loan risk and financing.

"Integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into business strategies and operations is no longer optional. It is crucial, not only for long-term financial success but also for taking responsibility for a company’s environmental and social impact", notes Dr Nicos Koussis, Head of Frederick University’s Department of Business Administration and lead researcher at the CERFS.

A panel of experts will be discussing the event’s topic: Stavros Violaris, Partner at EY and leader of the Climate Change and Sustainability Services, along with Constantina Charalambidou, Corporate Reporting expert at EY, will discuss the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the connectivity of corporate reporting. Nicolas Christodoulides, Senior ESG Analyst at the Bank of Cyprus, will explore ESG for financial institutions. Prof. Elettra Agliardi, Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna, will present on Sustainability-linked financing. Dr. Mihalis Makrominas and Dr. Nina Gorovaia, faculty members at Frederick University’s School of Business and Law, will present their research on “Identifying greenwashing in corporate social responsibility reports using natural language processing”.
