Sklavenitis: In talks with other market players to expand

Greek supermarket chain Sklavenitis is in talks with a number of local retail market players to look at ways of expanding in the Cypriot market, either through a takeover or collaboration.

Sources have told InBusinessNews that despite the rumour mill going into overdrive over a possible merger with Papanontoniou supermarkets, nothing has been set in stone yet.

Sklavenitis, which had previously mentioned its plans to expand in the local market, said it is in talks with various other supermarket chains, individual shops and businesses to discuss possible cooperation/mergers.

The Greek retailer currently runs 18 stores in Cyprus as well as a food prep plant. It employs over 1,500 people, having entered the market in 2017 after gaining control of the Carrefour Cyprus.
