International magazine lists wealthiest people in Cyprus

An international business magazine has listed John Fredriksen as the wealthiest person in Cyprus, with an estimated net worth of $13.5 billion in mid-August.

According to the article in CEOWorld magazine, Frederiksen is followed by Vinod Adani (No. 2, $12.7 billion), Yakir Gabay (No. 3, $3.5 billion); and Sergey Dmitriev (No. 4, $2.5 billion).

Born in Oslo, Norway, Fredriksen is now a naturalised Cypriot citizen. The sources of Fredriksen's wealth includes oil tankers, dry bulkers, LNG carriers and deepwater drilling rigs.

Adani is a Dubai-based billionaire businessman and the elder brother of Indian billionaire Gautam Adani. Nearly all of the elder brother’s wealth is connected to shares of Adani Group companies and previously attributed to Gautam Adani.

Gabay is a London-based Israeli-Cypriot businessman who owns 15% of Frankfurt-listed German real estate company Aroundtown SA, where he serves as deputy chairman of the advisory board.

Dmitriev is connected to the software development private limited company JetBrains, which makes tools for software developers and project managers. Dmitriev cofounded JetBrains in 2000 and renounced his Russian citizenship this year

Igor Makarov is listed as the fifth-richest person in Cyprus, with a whopping $2.1 billion. An active philanthropist and former professional cyclist, Makarov is Founder of ARETI International Group.

Valentin Kipyatkov, who is the other co-founder of JetBrains, is 6th with a personal wealth of $1.8 billion, followed by Polys Haji-loannou ($1.1 billion).

Stelios Haji-loannou, with a net worth of $1.1 billion, occupied the 8th position among the top wealthiest people in Cyprus. They are both connected to easyJet, among other activities.
