France awards Dr Loizos G. Loizou for his work against cancer

French President Emanuel Macron awarded Cypriot doctor Dr Loizos G. Loizou with the National Order of Merit of France.

The order to Dr Loizou, who is also a professor of the Medical School of the University of Nicosia, was presented by France’s Ambassador Salina Grenet – Catalano during an official ceremony in Nicosia attended by representatives of the state, the government, political parties, academic personalities, and other officials.

A relevant press release said Catalano, stated that this highest honourary distinction is conferred upon Professor Loizou in recognition of his enduring, effective, and fruitful contribution to the fight against cancer in children and adolescents in Cyprus and internationally. Dr. Loizou is the founder of the services and the Pediatric Oncology Clinic in Cyprus. The distinction is also in recognition of his philanthropic work as President of the "ELPIDA" Foundation, as well as his long-standing and broad-ranging efforts to strengthen and develop relations between Cyprus and France in the fields of medicine, research, education, and the consolidation of relations between the two nations.

Professor Loizou pledged to continue to work with even greater zeal for the prevention, treatment, and comprehensive care of children and adolescents affected by cancer in Cyprus and internationally, particularly in countries that are in need due to lack of resources and infrastructure, where over 80% of children with cancer die.

He also said that he will further intensify his efforts to strengthen the relations between the people of France and Cyprus, as well as to expand and reinforce the relations between the two countries in the fields of medicine, pediatric oncology, academic research, and international collaborations for better treatments for children with cancer in countries where Cyprus, in collaboration with France, can offer effective assistance.
