Antoniou and Paradisiotis battle it out over OEB presidency

Antonis Antoniou – Executive Chairman of Vassiliko Cement Works – will be facing off against Pavlos Paradisiotis, the Managing Director of Paradisiotis Group, as he attempts to get re-elected chairman of the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) at its annual general meeting in Nicosia.

Citing sources, InBusinessNews reported that the two will be submitting their candidacy during Tuesday’s AGM, where a new Executive Committee will also be elected.

The Executive Committee consists of 20 people, 15 elected members, three positions by ex officio participation, and two filled with appointments that will follow.

There are reportedly 23 candidates, prominent figures from the Cypriot business scene, running for the 15 seats on the committee; 126 members of OEB’s Board of Directors have the right to vote.

The new Chairman’s term expires in 2025, while the Executive Committee’s in 2027 – the chairman is elected every two years and the committee every four.

According to OEB’s Articles of Association, the same chairman can serve up to two terms, which means if Antoniou is re-elected, it will be his second and final term.

CCCI to elect a new president also

Meanwhile, the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) is also about to elect a new chairman after its current, Christodoulos Angastiniotis, waived his right to continue for a second, three-year term.

The CCCI’s election will take place in December this year, with potential candidates expected to start expressing interest from September onwards.

Regarding the procedure, the electoral body consists of 105 people, from the five local Chambers – 24 members from Nicosia, 21 from Limassol, 20 from Famagusta, 20 from Paphos and 20 from Larnaca. Only CCCI members can run for election.
