Invest Cyprus showcases island as top tech destination in Washington event

Cyprus promoted its vision of becoming a leading technology and investment hub during an event in the United States, where Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Nicodemos Damianou highlighted the government’s commitment to attracting high-quality foreign investment.

Speaking at the discussion “FDI Shifts and the Future of Europe’s Investment Landscape – Regulatory and Investment Conditions in Cyprus,” Damianou said the government is focused on “attracting quality investments and establishing Cyprus as a leading technology destination,” underscoring efforts to position the country as a top choice for tech companies.

The event, held on May 4 at The Westin, Washington National Harbor, was organised by Invest Cyprus in collaboration with fDi Intelligence and the Financial Times, as part of a series of initiatives promoting Cyprus as an investment and technology hub.

According to an official press release, Cyprus’ appeal to technology firms has been strengthened by recent developments, including the arrival of semiconductor company Tenstorrent, the establishment of Plug and Play Tech Center on the island, and a strategic partnership with NVIDIA to develop a national supercomputer.

Invest Cyprus Deputy CEO Lia Riri said the technology and innovation sector is among the fastest-growing and most significant contributors to the Cypriot economy.

She noted that promoting the sector in the United States where interest in Cyprus is increasing, is both a priority and an opportunity.

Riri added that companies are seeking a European base with a simple operating environment, a clear legal and tax framework, and a government actively investing in innovation.

“We are here to show them that Cyprus meets that description,” she said.
