American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo in Pafos takes shape (pics)

The under-construction American University of Beirut – Mediterraneo in Pafos has started to take shape, with the university expected to start offering graduate and postgraduate programmes in the 2023-24 academic year.

Construction work on the huge €29m project began in September 2022 by the joint venture MAN Enterprise – Atlas Pantou.

The opening of the new university is expected to seriously upgrade the town of Pafos but also the island’s entire educational system, what with the University of Beirut being an internationally renowned and prestigious university.

MAN Enterprise has published pictures of the under construction campus, which will span 9,500 square metres and be within a 1.4km distance from the town centre. As for its design, it is a combination of the rich cultures of Lebanon and Cyprus.

The American U​niversity of Beirut – Mediterraneo in Pafos, Cyprus, is a twin campus of the American University of Beirut (AUB) in Beirut, Lebanon. According to its website, AUB bases its educational philosophy, standards, and practices on the American liberal arts model of higher education. “The university encourages freedom of thought and expression and seeks to graduate men and women committed to creative and critical thinking, life-long learning, personal integrity, civic responsibility, and leadership.​”

AUB operates under a charter granted by the New York State Education Department (NYSED) which registers the university's degree programmes. All departments and programmes at AUB Mediterraneo are accredited by the Cyprus Agency of Quality Assurance and Accreditation of Higher Education (CYQAA).

It will begin offering undergraduate and gra​duate ​academic programmes at AUB Mediterraneo in the 2023-24 academic year.
