President: Zero tolerance to practices that expose Cyprus

The government’s political commitment to show zero tolerance to practices that expose Cyprus abroad is real, said President Nikos Christodoulides addressing the 96th annual general meeting of the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI).

To this end, he added, “we are working on implementing specific actions that will restore Cyprus’ standing as a reliable business and financial centre”.

As part of the government’s commitment to eradicating and preventing the island’s negative exposure abroad, he said, it immediately sought the help of the American authorities, which he thanked for the immediate response by sending a team of experts to Cyprus, which has got straight down to work.

“The government has also taken specific actions to effectively communicate the progress Cyprus has made in recent years, especially after 2013, in its fight against money laundering, but also our competitive advantages through a comprehensive campaign to rebrand our country,” said Christodoulides.

The President, among other, assured that the government was working to establish a favourable business environment and promote sustainable growth, following a specific strategy and approach, collectively and methodically.

“I am very pleased that we have the Cyprus Chamber of Commerce and Industry as our ally and companion in this effort,” said the President.

He added that he was convinced that the government’s “excellent cooperation” with CCCI would continue with the new president. “Only through strong cooperation can we create synergies and take advantage of innovative ideas, technology and special knowledge in every sector.”
