Possibility of small reductions in fuel prices, says Customer Protection Service Director

The Director of the Consumer Protection Service, Constantinos Karagiorgis, on Wednesday indicated that fuel prices in Cyprus could see moderate reductions in the coming days, particularly for unleaded 95.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Karagiorgis stressed that the Service does not issue forecasts on fuel price movements, citing the complexity of the sector and its sensitivity to unpredictable external and geopolitical factors.

“The Service's standard policy is not to make estimates or forecasts regarding fuel prices, as this is a particularly complex sector, heavily influenced by uncertain external and geopolitical developments,” he said.

However, he noted that current trends point to a possible easing in prices. “Taking into account the course of international Platts fuel prices, as well as recent geopolitical developments and the increases recorded in both European countries and Cyprus, there is a possibility of moderate reductions in fuel prices in the coming days, mainly in unleaded 95,” he added.

Asked about the timing of any potential decrease, Karagiorgis said this could happen “possibly even today or tomorrow.”

He reiterated that the Service closely monitors developments on a daily basis, with the primary objective of safeguarding consumer interests.

At the same time, he urged consumers to remain vigilant and compare prices across petrol stations, noting that significant price variations continue to be observed in the market.

Earlier on Wednesday, data published by Eurostat recorded a moderate increase in fuel prices in March,  in contrast to the significant price hikes observed at European level.

Specifically, in Cyprus, prices of fuels and lubricants for personal transport increased by 1.5% in March 2026 compared with March 2025, recording one of the lowest increases among European Union Member States.
