Government to enhance primary sector's competitiveness Agriculture Minister says

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Petros Xenophontos has said that the Government is working to enhance the competitiveness of the primary sector and the processing and utilisation of agricultural products by the producers themselves.

"The non-negotiable objective is to revitalise the rural population, to ensure a fair income for the producer, to ensure food quality and to support the age renewal of the agricultural sector," he said.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Limassol Municipality's new open-air market, Xenophontos also referred to the problems and challenges facing the agricultural sector, both from the fact that the economic crisis of the previous decade was followed by the coronavirus pandemic, and from the Russian invasion of Ukraine which created an energy and food problem.

"Nevertheless, our Ministry is making every effort to modernise our agricultural sector, having implemented all available European financial instruments," he said.
