Broad public sector employment up in Q3 of this year

Employment in the broad public sector increased by 1,878 persons in Q3 2023, compared to Q3 2022, due to an increase in the number of employees mainly in non-profit organisations (NPOs) and local authorities, while it decreased by 1,019 compared to Q2 this year.

According to the data released by CySTAT, the total number of employees in the broad public sector in Q3 2023 was 72,307, compared to 70,429 in Q3 2022 and 73,326 in Q2 2023.

General government employment was 66,496 in Q3 2023, compared to 64,726 in Q3 2023, and 5,811 in state owned enterprises and companies, compared to 5,703 in Q3 2022.

Employment in general government, which consists of government, non-profit organisations and local authorities, was 52,237 (compared to 52,730 in Q3 2022), 9,733 (compared to 7,626 in Q3 2022) and 4,526 (compared to 4,370 in Q3 2022), respectively.
