Nicosia selected to join European Commission's Intelligent Cities Challenge

The Municipality of Nicosia has been selected to participate in the European Commission's Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) initiative for the period 2023-2025.

Announcing the news, the Municipality said "the proposal has been selected to receive guidance from Commission experts for the creation of Local Green Deals, placing Nicosia at the forefront of the green and digital transition".

It said the Local Green Deals will help Nicosia and other cities that have joined the initiative to strengthen the European Green Deal, as it will focus on many key areas such as Energy, mobility and transport, built environment and construction, tourism and culture and creative sectors.

“Using the methodology developed by the European Commission, the experience of other cities, in collaboration with specialist consultants and with all the local bodies involved such as the Nicosia Chamber of Commerce and Industry, academic and research institutions and other agencies, the city's green and digital transition will be strengthened," the municipality said in its press release.

Concluding, it said that cities participating in the ICC will be supported to develop or renew strategies and action plans to address sustainable development goals and will be pioneers in the twin transition.
