Disposable income for households and non-profit institutions up by 7.2%

The annual disposable income for households and non-profit institutions serving households (NPISH) recorded a substantial increase of 7.2%, reaching €17,691.4 million in 2022 compared to €16,506.5 million in 2021, according to preliminary estimates of the main aggregates of the National Accounts by institutional sector.

According to CySTAT, the overall gross disposable income for the total economy in 2022 amounted to €25,486.8 million, with gross saving at €3,749.6 million and net borrowing at €2,148.9 million.

Their final consumption expenditure, saw a robust 15.6% increase in 2022, climbing from €14,358.8 million in 2021 to €16,605.3 million.

Despite the significant rise in spending, the savings ratio for households and NPISH has experienced a notable decrease. The ratio, calculated as the percentage of gross saving to gross disposable income, dropped to 6.5% in 2022, down from 13.5% in the preceding year (2021).

The investment ratio for non-financial corporations demonstrated a positive trend. Calculated as the percentage of investments to gross value added of the non-financial corporations’ sector, the ratio stood at 18.7% in 2022, compared to 17.0% in 2021.
