President Nikos Christodoulides participated in the 2026 European Political Community (EPC) Summit held in Yerevan, Armenia, and underlined the "fundamental shift in our security landscape" currently underway.
More specefically, in a social media post after the event, which encompassed his address at the gathering, the President said, "We are witnessing a fundamental shift in our security landscape. From conventional warfare to hybrid threats, today’s challenges do not stop at the borders of the European Union. They are continental, and they demand a 'Whole-of-Europe' response."
He continued, "The escalation in the Middle East reminds us that our neighborhood’s stability is a fundamental pillar of our own resilience. From energy supply to maritime routes, what happens there resonates across our continent.
At the same time, Russia’s aggression against Ukraine continues to challenge the principles of the international rules-based order."
As the President noted in his post, "Cyprus speaks from experience when we say that the architecture of a secure Europe cannot stand if the territorial integrity of any member is compromised. Whether in the East or in our own neighborhood, we cannot accept any status quo dictated by force. For a “Whole-of-Europe” approach to be credible, security must be indivisible, and no corner of our continent should remain in the shadow of foreign interference or division."
He went on to note that "A credible European security policy must be anchored in this 360-degree perspective. Addressing the volatility of the Middle East, of Ukraine, of the Western Balkans, is not a matter of regional preference, but a strategic requirement for the entire European family, from London to Nicosia, and from Paris to Yerevan."
"For me – and I believe also for everyone on this stage - a more autonomous Europe is now a strategic responsibility. Whether deepening the European industrial base or strengthening ties with partners, our objective is to ensure that Europe has the capacity to act when and where it matters," the President concluded in his address to the European Political Community convening in Yerevan.
