Liesbeth Mol: Climate change is a global challenge that demands global solutions

Climate change is a global challenge that demands global solutions, said Liesbeth Mol, Chair of Deloitte North South Europe, during the 14th Limassol Economic Forum.

As she said, the world is currently facing many challenges, and climate change represents an existential threat that will shape our world for generations to come. Her keynote presentation delved into the vital role that Chairs and Boards should play, as custodians of the business, to ensure that positive actions are taken and that economic headwinds are not allowed to delay sustainability initiatives and investments.

Mol sounded the alarm about climate change and the speed with which its effects are spreading.

She referred to the ecological destruction of the Pacific Ocean, where plastic supermarket bags have been found on its seabed, saying that climate change is not going away and measures need to be taken that will change the structure of the economy itself.

She said that everyone is responsible for turning words into action and made reference to the need for bold decisions, even if these are costly in the short-term. “Climate change is a global challenge that demands global solutions,” she concluded.
