An investment strategy may begin with identifying an opportunity. To put it into practice, however, managers must first attract the capital to support it. In a market where investors have different needs, time horizons and requirements, the route to that capital requires careful planning.
Where should a fund be domiciled? Which investors does it seek to reach? How will it be distributed across different markets? The answers influence its costs and operations, as well as its ability to grow across borders.
Daniel Schoneveld, Principal in the Client Solutions Group at Hamilton Lane, UK, will bring his perspective to this discussion at the 12th International Funds Summit, taking place on 16 November 2026 at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Limassol.
Schoneveld will participate in the session on fundraising and cross-border distribution for alternative investment funds. The discussion will examine fund structuring, access to the European market and competition between jurisdictions.
His career has focused on serving institutional investors and understanding their needs. Before joining Hamilton Lane in 2007, he was a Senior Vice President at Morgan Stanley Capital International in London, responsible for asset owners and investment consultants across Europe and Africa.
Previously, he worked as an institutional adviser at German bank Metzler and spent more than eight years at Hall International Partners in the Netherlands. He began his career as a research analyst at ABN Amro in Amsterdam.
This experience brings an investor-facing perspective to the session: how can an investment solution be designed to meet the needs of those providing the capital?
Institutional investors and private wealth clients assess opportunities against their own obligations, liquidity requirements and investment horizons. Reaching them requires managers to combine appropriate structures and clear information with distribution networks capable of connecting their investment proposition to the right audience.
The Summit will examine the role of partnerships with platforms and specialist intermediaries, as well as the potential of semi-liquid and evergreen structures. The discussion will consider how access to alternative investments can be broadened while taking account of each product’s characteristics and liquidity constraints.
Meanwhile, the implementation of AIFMD II is bringing fund operations into focus. Liquidity management, reporting, delegation and supervisory requirements influence how managers structure and organise their activities.
The session will also explore cross-border access within Europe, including the fund marketing passport and the rules governing promotion in individual markets. For managers seeking an international presence, understanding these processes is part of the growth strategy.
The choice of domicile is equally consequential. Luxembourg, Ireland, Cyprus and other European centres offer different features for establishing and servicing investment structures. Flexibility, costs, tax and operational considerations, and the quality of available services all contribute to the assessment.
For Cyprus, the discussion connects with its ambition to strengthen its position as a base for investment structures reaching European and international markets. The agenda also covers the Middle East and other regions beyond the European Union, alongside the needs of international investors and differences between regulatory frameworks.
For fund managers, institutional investors, advisers and fund services professionals, Schoneveld’s participation offers an opportunity to examine cross-border growth through the lens of the investor relationship.
The 12th International Funds Summit brings to Limassol a discussion spanning the alternative investment lifecycle: from product design and domicile selection to reaching the capital providers who will support an investment strategy.
