2027 Will Not Wait for CEOs

The old corporate strategy playbook is no longer fit for purpose. Geopolitical tensions are moving markets, energy costs are reshaping business plans, and artificial intelligence is rewriting the rules of competition in real time.

Against this backdrop, CEOs are not simply being asked to navigate another period of uncertainty. They must make decisions now for a 2027 that is already taking shape — one in which the ability to adapt quickly may prove just as important as an organisation’s size or financial strength.

This is the central focus of the CEO panel at the 17th Limassol Economic Forum, entitled “Leading Through Uncertainty: How CEOs Are Preparing for the World of 2027.”

The discussion will bring together four senior executives positioned at different points of the business economy: Demetris Demetriou, Chief Risk Officer at Bank of Cyprus; Pieris Markou, CEO of Deloitte Cyprus; Elias Neocleous, Managing Partner of Elias Neocleous & Co LLC; and Constantinos Savvides, CEO of bbf:. The panel will be moderated by presenter and broadcast journalist Emilia Papadopoulos.

The defining question is simple to ask but far more difficult to answer: how can a company plan its next move when the rules are changing before its strategy has even been fully implemented?

The panellists will explore the economic trends expected to shape business growth in 2027, as well as the impact of international rivalries, regional conflicts and shifting energy markets on corporate decision-making. From capital and risk management to investment, cross-border transactions and major development projects, geopolitics has moved out of foreign ministries and into the boardroom.

Artificial intelligence will inevitably command a central place in the conversation. Is AI primarily a productivity tool, or does it pose a threat to established business models? How are organisations already deploying it, and what operational, regulatory and reputational risks accompany its rapid adoption? Above all, can AI still provide a genuine competitive advantage, or is it quickly becoming merely the price of entry?

The discussion will move beyond comfortable forecasts. Each executive will be asked to identify the single greatest strategic risk their organisation is preparing for as 2027 approaches.

The composition of the panel promises contrasting but complementary perspectives: banking and risk, professional services, international law and real estate investment. Together, they will examine what leadership looks like when stability can no longer be taken for granted and long-term value must be built amid short-term disruption.

Because in a fragmented world, waiting is not a neutral position. It is a business decision in its own right — and potentially the most dangerous one of all.
