2027 is coming fast - Limassol is stepping up

The future is no longer knocking politely at the door. It is forcing its way in — bringing geopolitical conflict, economic uncertainty, technological disruption and a new contest for capital, energy and influence.

Against this backdrop, the 17th Limassol Economic Forum returns on Friday, 23 October, at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa. Political leaders, diplomats, economists, business executives and international experts will gather in Limassol to discuss not merely what is changing, but who will adapt in time — and who risks being left behind.

Because 2027 may still appear distant on the calendar. Politically and economically, however, it has already begun.

The discussion opens with Finance Minister Makis Keravnos and the role the European Union and Cyprus must play in an increasingly turbulent international environment. The focus then shifts to business leadership. Senior executives from Bank of Cyprus, Deloitte Cyprus, Elias Neocleous & Co LLC and bbf: will reveal how their organisations are preparing for a world in which uncertainty is no longer an exceptional condition but a permanent feature of corporate strategy.

The agenda will address the risks keeping business leaders awake at night, the economic forces shaping growth and artificial intelligence — the technology promising dramatic productivity gains while threatening to overturn entire business models.

From the corporate world, the Forum moves into the deeper waters of politics. House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou will address European leadership, democracy and strategic responsibility. The heads of the British, Indian and Italian diplomatic missions in Cyprus will examine shifting alliances, the future of the transatlantic relationship and the emerging international order struggling to take shape through successive crises.

Loukas Tsoukalis will pose the existential question: can Europe finally come of age politically? Steven Blockmans will consider whether it possesses credible foreign-policy and defence capabilities. Panayotis Tsakonas and Constantinos Filis will bring the debate to the Eastern Mediterranean, where wars, energy routes, maritime competition and new partnerships are redrawing the regional map.

Then comes the bill.

Nikos Vettas will analyse the challenges confronting the global economy and Europe’s productivity deficit. Panos Tsakloglou will open the difficult discussion on demography, pensions and a continent ageing faster than it is reforming.

Members of the European Parliament Michalis Hadjipantela and Georgios Aftias will discuss competitiveness, investment and monetary stability. Dimitris Skalkos and Evgenios Evgeniou will then tackle the question facing every market: where will global capital flow over the next five years?

Energy closes the circle, with Gina Cohen examining the fragile natural-gas equation in the Eastern Mediterranean — a region with considerable resources, ambitious plans and even greater geopolitical obstacles.

The Limassol Economic Forum has established itself as one of Cyprus’ most prestigious gatherings, attracting leading figures from the business, political and diplomatic communities. Its influence does not come from offering easy predictions. It comes from bringing together the people who must make difficult decisions.

In one week, the biggest questions will pass through Limassol.

This time, the answers cannot wait.
