Money is moving. Who writes the rules?

Capital moves. Investment structures evolve. Regulators face a demanding equation: how to create room for growth while maintaining investor confidence.

In private markets, that challenge is becoming increasingly significant. Private credit, cross-border strategies and digital assets are expanding investors’ options. They also bring greater demands for transparency, governance and effective supervision.

That debate comes to Limassol on 16 November 2026. George Karatzias, Chairman of the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), will participate in the 12th International Funds Summit, at Parklane, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, bringing the supervisory authority’s perspective to discussions about the industry’s future.

His participation highlights a decisive factor in investment growth: the quality of the framework within which markets operate. For fund managers, investors and advisers, supervision influences concrete decisions, from establishing a fund to selecting a strategy and accessing new markets. Regulatory clarity therefore carries commercial weight, shaping how firms plan expansion and how investors assess opportunities.

AIFMD II and the European framework for loan origination by investment funds form part of that equation. These developments connect with private credit’s role in corporate financing and highlight the relationship between investment growth, risk management and investor protection.

Capital crosses borders. Supervision requires coordination. Cross-border distribution and convergence in European supervisory practices matter to funds pursuing international strategies. For managers seeking growth, clear rules influence distribution planning, investor access and the practical operation of investment structures across jurisdictions.

Technology adds another dimension. Digital assets and structures using tokenisation create new possibilities alongside new requirements. Supervisory authorities must understand these changes and support an environment in which innovation can develop with transparency and credibility. For an industry built on managing capital and long-term expectations, confidence remains essential.

For Cyprus, the stakes connect directly with its international ambitions. Strengthening its position as a funds hub requires specialist services, effective operations and trust. Supervisory credibility is a fundamental component of the ecosystem’s competitiveness.

George Karatzias brings experience from both regulation and the funds industry. He previously served as CySEC Vice Chairman and as an Executive Board Member of the Central Bank of Cyprus. Earlier, he led the investment funds section at Alter Domus Cyprus.

Under the theme “The European Alternative Funds Landscape”, the Summit offers industry professionals an opportunity to exchange views, develop connections and examine the forces shaping their next decisions.

The participation of CySEC’s Chairman connects the market’s growth prospects with the institutional framework supporting its operation: supervision equipped for the demands of the next investment cycle.
