Five Open University Cyprus academics rank in top 2% of scientists worldwide

Five academic staff members of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) have been ranked among the top 2% of scientists worldwide -based on the impact of their research work- according to the latest edition of the international Stanford/Elsevier ranking. These individuals are Professors Stephanos Efthymiadis, Michalinos Zembylas, Antonis Zorpas, and Constantinos Leonidou, as well as Professor Jahna Otterbacher.

The Open University of Cyprus said in a press release on Wednesday that "their inclusion in this international scientific ranking constitutes significant recognition of the quality, scope, and scientific influence of their research, while simultaneously highlighting the OUC’s contribution to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge with global impact."

"Also noteworthy is the presence of a significant number of distinguished scientists who collaborate with the OUC as members of the Adjunct Academic Staff (AAS) in the University’s study programmes and are included in the same ranking," the press release noted.

It further added that "this distinction highlights the high level of scientific expertise and the international reach of the Open University of Cyprus’s broader academic staff."

"These accolades confirm the Open University of Cyprus’s unwavering commitment to academic and research excellence, strengthening its international presence and recognition," the University emphasised.

"At the same time, they reflect its dynamic growth as a modern, research-oriented university that invests in innovation, scientific collaboration, and the generation of knowledge with a meaningful societal impact," it noted.

In conclusion, the Open University of Cyprus extended its warmest congratulations to all members of its academic community on this significant achievement.
