The President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, met on Wednesday with the President of the Cyprus Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts, Achilleas Emilianides, who was accompanied by members of the Senate and the Academy’s Head. During the meeting, Emilianides presented Demetriou with the Academy’s Annual Report for 2025.
According to a statement by the House, Emilianides outlined the Academy’s wide-ranging work and various initiatives to strengthen and further enhance its presence at the European and international level.
He also stressed the need to step up the necessary efforts to provide the Academy with suitable premises, underlining the importance of creating the appropriate infrastructure to enable it to carry out its mission and work without hindrance.
For her part, the President of the House praised the Academy’s work and contribution, highlighting in particular its significant role “in fostering and promoting the sciences, letters and arts, especially at a time when knowledge, scholarship and intellectual development face significant challenges.”
At the same time, she expressed her support for the Academy’s request to expedite and complete the necessary steps to secure suitable premises.
The House statement also said that the meeting covered issues relating to the Academy’s broader role and mission, while views were exchanged on further strengthening cooperation between the House of Representatives and the Academy.
