Cyprus was below the European Union average in 2025 in terms of the share of internet users with paid subscriptions to streaming services for films, series or sports content.
According to data published by Eurostat on Thursday, the share in Cyprus stood at 26.97%, compared with 32.7% across the EU as a whole.
At the same time, 11.36% of internet users in Cyprus paid for music streaming services, compared with 23% in the EU.
Paid subscriptions to online news websites, newspapers or magazines were held by 2.77% of internet users in Cyprus, compared with 7.2% in the EU.
For video game streaming services, the share in Cyprus stood at 5.89%, very close to the 6.1% recorded across the European Union.
At Member State level, the highest shares of subscribers to streaming services for films, series or sports content were recorded in Ireland and Denmark.
According to Eurostat data, the share reached 63.9% in Ireland and 61.1% in Denmark, followed by the Netherlands at 59.2%. At the other end of the scale, the lowest share in the EU was recorded in Bulgaria, where only 9.3% of internet users had a corresponding paid subscription. Slovenia, at 13.7%, Latvia, at 16.7%, and Lithuania, at 17.4%, were also among the countries with the lowest shares.
