Dimis Michaelides is a writer/performer and a veteran of the LSE, the World Bank, the corporate C-suite and business consulting. For two weeks in August, he will be performing his latest show daily at the celebrated Festival Fringe in Edinburgh
“Epic Economics” is a theatrical performance based on the ideas and thinking of distinguished economists from the 18th century to today, highlighting their contributions and contradictions. Dimis Michaelides weaves the words of 12 grand theorists – from Adam Smith to Thomas Piketty – with stories from his own journey through economics and life, aided by Lia Haraki, one of Cyprus’ leading performance artists, who directs the show, and Elias Vasiloudes, producer/composer, musician and tech expert, who has created an original soundscape capturing the contributions, contradictions and confusion surrounding economics today.
This irreverent play puts the economists who shaped our world on trial with wicked humour, songs and an invitation to spectators to engage with the question: What would you protest about today?
“Epic Economics” is not Dimis Michaelides’ first participation in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. In 2023, he wrote and performed a theatrical magic show, “It’s Magic, but is it Art?”
The new work premiered last year in sold-out performances in Cyprus and will later be staged at the prestigious Michael Cacoyannis Foundation Cultural Centre in Athens.
