The appetite is there—Now it's time for decisions: AI Leadership Circle shows real value will depend on strategy and speed

Artificial intelligence has now moved beyond the stage of curiosity and into the realm of business decision-making. The question is no longer whether organisations will embrace AI, but how quickly—and with what strategy—they will succeed in transforming its capabilities, and their appetite for adoption, into a competitive advantage.

That was the key conclusion of the AI Leadership Circle, organised by Cyta Business, which earlier this week brought together senior business executives, government representatives and leaders from the technology sector for a closed strategic discussion on the future of artificial intelligence in Cyprus.

The event provided the setting for a meaningful exchange, during which leading executives from organisations at the forefront of AI adoption in Cyprus shared their experiences, concerns and perspectives on both the opportunities and the challenges presented by the new AI landscape.

Participants agreed that the public conversation needs to shift away from fear and uncertainty towards a more pragmatic dialogue—one grounded in real-world applications, measurable outcomes and the creation of business value.

Particularly insightful were the contributions from executives representing major organisations, who explained how businesses are currently approaching artificial intelligence, highlighted smart AI implementation strategies—sometimes delivering substantial returns—and discussed how international investors and foreign companies may, in some cases, have an even clearer appreciation of the opportunities that AI presents for Cyprus.

There was broad consensus that Cyprus possesses considerable growth potential, provided businesses act promptly and follow a clear strategic direction.

Earlier in the event, George Metzakis, Chief Executive Officer of Cyta, stressed that artificial intelligence is fundamentally a matter of leadership and strategy. He noted that trust, high-quality data and the responsible use of technology will be the defining factors separating the leading organisations of the next decade from the rest.

On his part, Dr Nicodemos Damianou, Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, emphasised that the real challenge is not merely participating in the global AI race, but capitalising on the opportunities it creates for the economy, businesses and society. He also highlighted the importance of partnerships, Cyprus's integration into the international innovation ecosystem, and the country's ability to assume a meaningful role within it.

Meanwhile, Niki Ioannou, Cyta Business Director, offered an overview of the Cypriot market, noting that although organisations are adopting artificial intelligence at different speeds, most face a common challenge: the quality and organisation of their data. As she explained, AI delivers its greatest value when organisations integrate it into their critical business processes and measure the outcomes.

Another consistent message emerged throughout the discussion: the time to act is now. Businesses that move early by investing in data readiness, developing the necessary skills and implementing solutions that generate genuine value will gain a significant competitive advantage in the years ahead.

The AI Leadership Circle confirmed that the Cypriot business community now views artificial intelligence not as a technology of the future, but as an immediate driver of growth and competitiveness—and that the willingness to embrace it certainly exists.

The challenge is not the indiscriminate adoption of every new AI application, but the strategic deployment of artificial intelligence to create value, improve productivity and support sustainable growth.

The AI Leadership Circle discussion, which took place on 30 June, was moderated by George Michael, Chief Executive Officer of IMH.
