Transport Minister, Indian High Commissioner discuss upgrading Cyprus–India air connectivity

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades met on Tuesday with India’s High Commissioner, Manish, along with a team of international cooperation experts and the Permanent Secretary, to review the existing Air Services Agreement and explore the way forward in establishing the necessary legal framework for air connectivity between India and Cyprus, the Commissioner said in a LinkedIn post.

As part of the modernisation of the India–Cyprus Air Services Agreement, the Commissioner noted that a presentation was delivered by Cyprus’s Air Navigation Services team on the current status of the agreement and ongoing efforts to update the framework for the future.

“Both sides acknowledged the growing demand for direct air connectivity between India and Cyprus,” the Commissioner wrote, adding that the updated framework is expected to unlock improved connectivity, greater value for travellers, stronger tourism flows, new logistics and transport opportunities, and deeper people-to-people ties.

The post also noted that Transport Minister Vafeades recently held meetings with IndiGo and Air India, during which the interest shown by both airlines in connecting India and Cyprus was recognised as a significant outcome of the President of the Republic of Cyprus’s visit to India in May 2026.
