The Cyprus Shipping Chamber successfully held the first of its two annual blood donations for 2026, on 17 June, at the Health Center of the Old Limassol Hospital, as part of its long-standing social actions through the 'Cyprus Shipping Cares' programme.
Through this programme, which was established in 2024, the Chamber strengthens its long-term commitment to social contribution and solidarity, an announcement from the Chamber notes.
Once again, the blood drive was symbolically dedicated to the Day of the Seafarer, which is celebrated by the international maritime community annually on 25 June. This day highlights the crucial role of seafarers in global trade and the global economy, as well as the challenges they face in their lives and work at sea. This year's campaign message, "Carrying world trade . Carrying the risks,” focuses on the demanding conditions and difficulties that accompany the maritime profession, the Chamber's announcement pointed out.
In this context, the blood donation initiative constitutes a symbolic sign of appreciation to seafarers for their timeless contribution, while reaffirming the Shipping Chamber's support of the people who are at the heart of global shipping.
It is worth noting that the Cyprus Shipping Chamber has been continuously organising its biannual blood donations for the last 33 years, a fact that demonstrates the steady support and active participation of the employees of its Member Companies, who voluntarily donate blood every year for this very important cause, the announcement said.
To date, the initiative has collected more than 3,500 units of blood, substantially contributing to strengthening Cyprus' hospitals and meeting the needs of patients across the country, it concluded.
