Finance Minister Makis Keravnos heading to Luxembourg for Eurogroup and ECOFIN

Finance Minister Makis Keravnos will take part in the Eurogroup meeting on Thursday, 11 June and chair the ECOFIN Council on Friday, 12 June, in Luxembourg.

On Thursday, Keravnos will take part in the Eurogroup meeting, where Ministers "will discuss macroeconomic and fiscal developments in the euro area and will be briefed on the IMF assessment of euro area policies,” the Finance Ministry said in a press release.

Ministers will also exchange views with all EU member states on economic and energy security in the EU, based on a presentation by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.

On Friday, Keravnos will chair the ECOFIN Council.

“Ministers will discuss an amendment to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) regulation with a view to reaching a general approach,” the Ministry said.

The regulation aims to impose a carbon levy on selected imports to ensure a level playing field between EU and imported goods.

The amendment seeks to strengthen the effectiveness of the framework and expand its product scope.

The ECOFIN Council is also expected to approve revised recovery and resilience plans for Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Belgium and Poland.

Keravnos will also attend the annual meetings of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) Boards of Governors.
