The programme “ATHENA – 2030+” that aims to strengthen research, technological development and innovation in the fields of Defence and Security, was officially launched on Tuesday at an event in the Ministry of Defence, in Nicosia. The projects that will be selected under the programme will be eligible for funding of up to 85% with a maximum implementation period of 3 years and a total budget of up to €3,500,000.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Defence Vasilis Palmas noted that the programme constitutes another targeted national strategic investment in knowledge, innovation and technological progress, strengthening domestic capabilities in the fields of defence and security.
In addition, he said, it contributes to the operational effectiveness of the National Guard, strengthening the resilience of the Republic of Cyprus and establishing it as a reliable partner in the European defence industry ecosystem.
"The programme focuses on critical areas of technological priority, which directly respond to modern defence and security requirements. These include the utilization of artificial intelligence for defence applications and support for the decision-making process, unmanned systems and autonomous platforms, cyber defence and information operations, as well as the development of innovative technological solutions with high operational added value,” the Minister concluded.
