The Brewers of Europe and the Cyprus Brewers, together with MEP Michalis Hadjipantelas on 21 April hosted an event in Brussels celebrating Cyprus chairing the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The Brewers of Europe brings together national brewers’ associations and companies, from 28 European countries to represent the united voice of Europe’s 10,000+ breweries. The message that was sent is this event is the importance of collaboration across countries within the EU and across the EU Institutions together with the beer sector: "Beer brings people together of different backgrounds, nationalities and political persuasions, for conversation, dialogue and conviviality. "
The event attracted a high-level audience of around 200 persons, including the EU Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans Costas Kadis, Members of the European Parliament, policy makers, Delegations personnel of member States in the EU, brewers, value chain representatives, media and other stakeholders and of course Cypriot residing in Brussels for professional reasons.
Both Cypriot breweries, KEO and Photos Photiades, were present while KEO beer and LEON beer were served to all guests and participants. In their speeches, they both described their respective beers taste, attributes and qualities. The Mediterranean flavour is unique and reflects the sunshine we enjoy in the island while it is cool and refreshing given the summer heat. The KEO and LEON representatives expressed their confidence in that Cypriot beers can stand along any other European beerws since are produced under strict standards and with high quality controls.
They also stressed out the importance and contribution of brewing to society and the economy, while they both remain focused to preserving the environment and applying techniques and procedures that are friendly to the environment.
Hadjipantelas (MEP) expressed his gratitude to the Brewers of Europe and the Cypriot Breweries for hosting such an event, which credits the efforts of Cyprus towards participating equally with other member states to the coherence of Europe via specific sectors. He exerted the work done by both Associations and acknowledged the important contribution of the beer sector in the economy and the society via offering job positions, taxes and activations in the society. He praised the Cypriot brewers for their quality of beers and their excellent standing in the Cypriot market.
The President of the Brewers of Europe Christian Weber, the General Secretary of the Brewers of Europe Julia Leferman and Christina Tzika representing the Cyprus Government also carried out speeches exerting the importance of the beer sector to the economy and the society with reference to the development of smooth relationships by bringing people together. In addition, they all expressed their happiness to welcome the Cypriot breweries of KEO and Photos Photiades in Brussels, and for serving Europe with their beers.
The event was completed with socialising between the participants while enjoying the unique and great Cypriot beers.
