The airline's Chief Commercial Officer Nicos Ioannou has commented on the current course of Cyprus Airways, which has Larnaka International Airport as its main base, connecting Cyprus with important destinations.
As he notes in a recent video interview for Hermes Airports' online newsletter Flight Mode, 2025 was an important year, with the company exceeding 600,000 passengers and continuing to develop routes and improve its product in collaboration with tourism and aviation stakeholders.
Ioannou also reveals that the airline's plans include strengthening the fleet with modern Airbus aircraft, new partnerships with airlines and upgrading the travel experience with digital tools and elements of Cypriot hospitality.
More specefically, Ioannou notes, "Cyprus Airways is the largest Cypriot airline, with the largest fleet of aircraft, based at Larnaca Airport, the main air transport hub of Cyprus. This year, the company will celebrate ten years since its reactivation, now successfully transporting its emblematic legacy, the flying Moufflon and the name of our country, to dozens of airports abroad on a daily basis."
The Chief Commercial Officer also explains that, "After the COVID -19 era, where the company pioneered the restoration of Cyprus' connectivity, it has now regrouped, fully stabilised, and embarked on a path of continuous product improvement, development of the frequency of routes on the network it serves, as well as gradual expansion to new destinations for regular passengers."
Ioannou also talks about how, "2025 was a year of milestones and recovery, with our travel audience exceeding 600,000 passengers. We have aimed to reconnect and be relevant to the travel needs of the passenger audience residing in Cyprus, as well as to an inbound high-quality tourist flow, both with scheduled and specially chartered flights."
"The collaboration with Hermes Airports, the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, leading local and foreign tour operators, and more generally with local - public and private - organised bodies, has produced encouraging results, and we really thank them all," the Chief Commercial Officer continues.
Based on these results and the vision of the new shareholders, further development of the fleet has already been set in motion in the next two years, he notes, adding, "We will continue to invest in new technology aircraft, but also in further improving the level of service, both for business and economy class passengers. The continuous upgrading of the passenger travel experience is now a central objective of our commercial philosophy. Authentic Cypriot hospitality, a key pillar of our tourism product and the local society and culture, is an integral part of the in-flight experience."
As Ioannou points out, "The new Airbus aircraft have an extremely low carbon footprint, more fuel efficient, reduced noise levels and modern cabin systems for greater comfort during travel. In line with our uncompromising commitment to the highest possible level of safety, we are now actively and steadily building on our re-establishment as the country's leading air carrier."
The Chief Commercial Officer also talks about the airlines' collaborations and developments, saying, "In 2026, Cyprus Airways is dynamically entering a period of developing partnerships with other high-profile airlines, in order to provide additional travel options to the local passenger public, but also to bring Cyprus closer - as a high-standard destination - to existing and new markets, which is consistent with the constantly upgraded level of hotel units and services on our island."
"In addition, we have a new website, app, free airfi onboard, new food options in collaboration with well-known brands, with local producers, strongly highlighting the authentic Cypriot element, but also actively and substantially contributing to the Cypriot economy," he adds.
"With a new commercial philosophy, Cyprus Airways returns as the airline of Cyprus, with a clear quality orientation and the goal of connecting Cyprus, as our country deserves and responding to its needs," Ioannou concludes.
