Pittali Winery has announced that its wine 'Heras Alma 2024' has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Berliner Wine Trophy, one of the world’s largest and most prestigious wine competitions.

The competition took place in Berlin in early March, featuring more than 6,300 wines from around the globe.

As noted in a relevant announcement from Pittali Winery, "'Heras Alma 2024' represents an effort to craft a fuller, more expressive interpretation of the indigenous Cypriot grape variety Xynisteri, with depth, structure, and ageing potential. The grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Pitsilia region, near the villages of Agios Ioannis and Agios Konstantinos, at an altitude of over 1,000 meters. Following harvest, the grapes were sun-exposed to achieve natural concentration of aromas, while part of the fermentation took place in French oak barrels, contributing to the wine’s rich texture, complexity, and expressive character."

Winemaker Fanis Pittalis stated, “Heras Alma was created with the aim of showcasing the potential of Xynisteri. This international recognition is an important validation of our work and motivates us to continue with even greater passion and vision for the promotion of Cypriot grape varieties.”

Through the 'House of Fanis Pittalis' initiative, the winery follows a distinct philosophy, producing new and unique wines each year instead of fixed labels. With a focus on innovation, authenticity, and continuous evolution, its aim is to highlight the potential of Cypriot grape varieties while creating a living record of a ten-year creative journey. 'Heras Alma' is one of five wines produced during the first year of the House of Fanis Pittalis project.
