The car market continues to grow dynamically in the first months of 2026, with registrations of saloon passenger cars recording an increase of 13.7% and reaching 6,917 in the period January - February 2026 compared to 6,084 in the corresponding period last year.
According to CySTAT data, used cars (including those from dealerships and from used car dealers/yards) continue to have a clear lead (4,516 or 65.3%) over new cars (2,401 or 34.7%).
Hybrid cars account for almost 50% of the passenger saloon car market (49.6% from 43.9% in the first two months of 2025), while the share of electric cars remains stable (5.2% from 5.3% in the first two months of 2025).
At the same time, the share of petrol-powered saloon cars in the total of this vehicle category decreased in the first two months of 2026 to 36.2% (from 41.6% in the corresponding period of 2025), while the share of diesel-powered cars fell to 8.9% from 9.2% in the first two months of 2025.
Total passenger car market
Total registrations of saloon passenger cars in the period January - February 2026 amounted to 6,917, of which 6,381 concerned private cars.
In the overall saloon market, Toyota maintains its lead by a wide margin, with 1,490 registrations.
Mazda ranks second, with 879, followed by Nissan, with 590, BMW, with 473, and Mercedes completes the top five, with 429 registrations.
The remaining positions on the relevant list are occupied by Honda (286), Kia (269), Volkswagen (239), Audi (162) and BYD (150).
New saloon passenger cars
Registrations of new passenger saloon cars accounted for 34.7% of the market, reaching 2,401 in the first two months of 2026, of which 2,216 concerned private cars.
At the top of new passenger saloons is Kia (253), followed by Toyota (189), Nissan (187), Volkswagen (181) and BMW (175).
The list of new passenger saloon car registrations also includes brands such as Mercedes (153), BYD (150), Hyundai (128), Renault (106) and Audi (79).
Used saloon passenger cars
Used cars account for 63.3% of the saloon market , with registrations in the first two months of 2026 amounting to 4,516, of which 4,165 were private cars.
It is clarified that registrations of used saloons arise from both dealerships and used car dealers/yards.
In first place is Toyota, with 1,301 registrations, followed by Mazda (867), Nissan (403), BMW (298) and Mercedes (276).
The used car list also includes popular brands, including Honda (260), Audi (83), Suzuki (81), Land Rover (63) and Volkswagen (58).
