Deputy Minister to the President, Irene Piki said on Monday that these are times of profound change and that success is defined by resilience and purpose with governance at its heart. She was speaking at the launch of the Cyprus Institute of Directors & Corporate Governance.
“The role of directors and boards has never been more demanding,” she added, as it is key to promote preparation, independence of judgement, and keeping the stakeholders in mind. She said that the public sector and private sector are similar in this manner, as transparency is necessary for progress, in both the government and the corporate boardroom.
She also highlighted the government initiatives like governance, modernising the audit office, and restructuring the audit system, and other reforms, aimed at transparency.
“We share a common goal,” she said, commenting on the institute’s mission, which she equated to the government strategy.
