In what has been described as a historic achievement for Cypriot and Greek cinema, the film 'Hold Onto Me,' directed by Cypriot filmmaker Myrsini Aristidou, has been presented with the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important film festivals in the world.
The announcement was made during the Festival’s official awards ceremony on 30 January, with Sundance audiences selecting the film among the festival’s entries and honouring it with the most significant award bestowed directly by viewers.
'Hold Onto Me' is the first Cypriot, Greek-language feature film to participate in the Sundance Film Festival, marking a landmark moment for Cypriot cinema from its very first appearance. The film had its world premiere this Monday with a sold-out screening and received a double standing ovation, earning an exceptionally warm reception from both audiences and critics.
"Winning the Sundance Audience Award confirms the film’s powerful emotional connection with viewers and represents a top distinction for both the filmmaker and contemporary Cypriot cinema, paving the way for a dynamic international journey," a press release announcing the achievement notes.
