The College of the EU Commissioners, led by President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will be in Cyprus on Thursday and Friday, 15 and 16 January in the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
According to a press release of the Cyprus EU Presidency, consultations will be held with the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU on cooperation during its six-month term. It stresses that the visit is one of the most important to take place during the Cyprus Presidency.
On Thursday morning, the President of the Commission, together with the President of the Republic, will visit the Green Line in Nicosia, in front of the new Nicosia City Hall.
The meeting of the College of Commissioners and the Cyprus Council of Ministers will take place at the new port of Limassol. The President of the Republic and the President of the Commission will visit, in the passenger hall area of the new port, an exhibition on the Amalthea project (Cyprus' initiative for humanitarian aid to Gaza through a sea corridor).
President Christodoulides and von der Leyen will hold a bilateral meeting while meetings will begin in groups of Ministers/Deputy Ministers and Commissioners, who will discuss issues regarding the European agenda and the priorities of the Cyprus Presidency and the Commission.
Later on, the plenary session will take place with the participation of the College and the Council of Ministers, led by the President of the Republic of Cyprus and the President of the Commission.
President Christodoulides and President von der Leyen will hold a press conference at the end of the meeting.
Von der Leyen will depart after the press conference while the Commissioners will travel to Nicosia, where the President of the Republic will host a dinner.
On Friday, the College of Commissioners will visit the old town of Nicosia as well as the Green Line accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Constantinos Kombos and Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna.
