Cyprus to launch repatriation flights from the Middle East, Spokesman announces

Repatriation flights for Cypriot nationals located in areas affected by the Middle East crisis will begin on Wednesday, 4 March, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis has announced.

In statements, Letymbiotis said that “the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, within the framework of the overall management of developments arising from the regional crisis, and particularly in relation to a number of our compatriots who are in the UAE, informs that charter flights have been arranged for their repatriation.” He added that the necessary arrangements have been completed and relevant procedures are underway.

“The flights are scheduled to begin tomorrow (Wednesday), under the self-evident and non-negotiable condition of ensuring safety, always in accordance with the guidelines of the competent national airspace control authority of the UAE, and in coordination with the authorities of the region,” he continued, speaking on the evening of Tuesday, 3 March.

Letymbiotis further noted that officials of the National Crisis Management Centre of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are already in direct contact with Cypriot nationals who have registered their contact details on the ConnectCy platform, in order to organise the flight schedule. He clarified that no further action is required from citizens who have already submitted their contact information.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue its efforts consistently and intensively to ensure the safe return of all our compatriots,” Letymbiotis added, noting that a flight has already departed from Egypt carrying eight Cypriot citizens who had been in Israel, as part of the broader repatriation plan.

“The protection and safe return of our citizens is an absolute priority, and all competent services remain in continuous coordination for the effective management of the situation,” he stressed.
