Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Moushouttas, is anticipated to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation on nuclear safety with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi, in Vienna.
According to a press release issued the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance, Mousiouttas flew to Vienna on Sunday, 13 September to represent the Republic of Cyprus at the IAEA General Conference, where he is set to deliver the Republic of Cyprus’s National Statement.
The 70th Regular Session of the IAEA General Conference will be held from 14 to 18 September 2026.
During his visit, the Minister is also due hold a tete-a-tete meeting with the IAEA Director General, Rafael Mariano Grossi, to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation in the field of nuclear security, with particular emphasis on utilising the capabilities of the Cyprus based CYCLOPS centre as the Agency’s regional training centre, the press release said.
It noted that CYCLOPS (Cyprus Centre for Land, Open-seas and Port Security) is a training centre owned by the Republic of Cyprus, based in Larnaca. The project has been implemented in close cooperation with the US administration, under a Memorandum of Understanding signed on 12 September 2020 between the Republic of Cyprus and the United States of America.
