Ηouse of Representatives hosting Interparliamentary Conference on AI

The House of Representatives will host an Interparliamentary Conference on Artificial Intelligence on the 14 and 15 of January within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Conference will be attended by delegations from the parliaments of the EU member states, the European Commission and the European Parliament.

According to a press release by the Parliament, House Speaker Annita Demetriou will deliver a welcome address at the opening of the Conference, on Thursday, 15 January, 2026.

The Conference, it is added, "is expected to highlight a wide range of issues arising from the rapid development of artificial intelligence, including the opportunities and complex challenges arising from its use in key areas of public and private life, taking into account its ethical, legal and social dimensions."

Keynote speakers will be the European Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, the Rule of Law and Consumer Protection, Michael McGrath, Cypriot Deputy Minister for Research and Innovation, Nikodemos Damianou, Chair of the EP Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, Li Andersson (online), Co-Chair of the EP Working Group on the Implementation and Enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Regulation and MEP Michael McNamara (online), as well as Cypriot and foreign politicians, academics and technocrats, with expertise in the topics under discussion.

The Conference will discuss about the governance of AI, the challenges to Democracy and the Rule of Law arising from the use of AI, and the challenges and opportunities presented in the field of employment in the era of AI.
