Psaras Construction Invests in Health and Safety: A Culture That Starts From Leadership

In the modern construction sector, where working conditions are characterized by increasing complexity and numerous risks, Health and Safety is a fundamental requirement for the success and sustainability of every project.

Psaras Construction, fully recognizing the importance of prevention, training, and effective risk management, makes substantial investments in creating a safe working environment that promotes the well-being of its employees. This commitment begins at the highest level of management, which has placed Health and Safety as a central priority.

The construction sector is globally considered one of the most challenging professional industries, as working at heights, the operation and use of heavy machinery and tools, the constant changes in site conditions, and the high number of workforces involved significantly increase accident rates and occupational risks. For this reason, establishing and promoting a strong Health and Safety culture is an integral part of the operations of every responsible company. At Psaras Construction, this culture extends beyond procedures and regulations; it is expressed through daily practices, proactive action, systematic training, and the active participation of all employees.

Psaras Construction’s Health and Safety Practices

A core pillar of the company’s philosophy is investing in employee training and development. Psaras Construction believes that knowledge is the most effective means of prevention and ensures that all employees receive systematic training in safe work practices, proper equipment use, emergency response, and risk identification. Training programs are regularly updated to reflect the current demands of the industry.

At the same time, the company consistently invests time and resources in developing comprehensive, documented safe work methodologies, ensuring their correct application at all stages of construction activities. It also procures and provides high-quality Personal Protective Equipment, ensuring that every employee is fully equipped and adequately trained in its proper use.

The company’s commitment to Health and Safety is further demonstrated through the operation of its specialized Health and Safety Department, consisting of two trained professionals who conduct weekly inspections at all construction sites. This ensures the proper implementation of safety measures, continuous risk assessment, and the immediate adoption of corrective actions when necessary.

A key element of the overall safety strategy is the monthly Health and Safety Committee, held at each construction site with the participation of various stakeholders and subcontractors. These meetings address employee needs, concerns arising from daily work, and suggestions for improving procedures. This inclusive approach strengthens the sense of collective responsibility, empowers the workforce and contributes significantly to continuously improving safety practices.

Furthermore, the extensive expertise of the Health and Safety Manager, who has completed more than 300 hours of training and holds the NEBOSH International Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety, along with the company’s ISO 45001 certification, enhances Psaras Construction’s ability to implement internationally recognized best practices. Another team member also holds the NEBOSH International Certificate, further reinforcing the company’s technical competence and compliance in Health and Safety .

In this context, Orestis Theophylactou, the company’s Health and Safety Manager, states:

“At Psaras Construction, Health and Safety is not a procedural obligation but a core value. We continuously invest in training, innovation, and prevention so that every employee returns home safely. In 2025, we conducted more than 550 hours of training related to Health and Safety for our staff, reaffirming our commitment in practice. Our dedication to Health and Safety remains firm and non-negotiable.”

This commitment to quality and innovation was recently recognized through a significant distinction for the company. Psaras Construction received 3rd Prize at the 2025 Good Practice Competition organized by the Cyprus Department of Labour Inspection, acknowledging its innovative practices. The award was granted for creating a pioneering induction training video developed using artificial intelligence and offered in multiple languages, effectively addressing the challenge of workforce multilingualism. The video has already been successfully implemented at the Palm Beach Resort construction site in Larnaca, providing all workers with clear and comprehensible guidance on  Health and Safety rules.

With all the above, Psaras Construction reaffirms once again its role as one of the leaders in the Cypriot construction industry. The company consistently sets high standards and shapes a working environment where prevention, protection and respect are integral to daily operations, investing systematically in safety, innovation, and its human capital.
