The modern work environment is changing at a rapid pace. The new generations of employees, raised in an era of technology and speed, bring with them a different culture a new perception of balance between work and personal life. For the so-called “Zoomers,” success is not measured in hours worked, but in outcomes, creativity, and flexibility. However, the coexistence of different generations in the same workplace creates not only challenges but also a significant opportunity: to build bridges of understanding and cooperation that lead to a truly harmonious and productive work ecosystem.
As part of the 24th Leadership & Human Resource Management Conference, Dr Maria Charalambous, Program Director of the MSc in Human Resource Management and Organizational Behaviour at the University of Limassol, will participate in the discussion titled “Is working smart not hard the future?” Through her scientific and academic perspective, Dr Charalambous will highlight the ways in which the new generations are redefining their relationship with work, focusing on wellbeing, creativity, and continuous development.
Dr Charalambous’ contribution is particularly significant, as she combines academic knowledge with practical understanding of the needs of the modern employee. A lecturer in Human Resource Management, Organizational Behaviour and Leadership (Department of Management), and in Work and Organizational Psychology (Department of Psychology) at the University of Limassol, she obtained her degree in Psychology with a minor in Political Science from the University of Cyprus, and her master’s and PhD in Work and Organizational Psychology from Coventry University and the University of Surrey, respectively. She is a member of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology (EAWOP) and the European Academy of Occupational Health Psychology (EAOHP), and is an accredited BPS user for ability and personality/psychometric testing.
The panel aims to open an honest dialogue between representatives of the new generation and HR professionals, raising questions such as: What does “working smart” really mean in practice? How can organisations adapt their structures and culture to welcome this new mindset? And how can technology act as a bridge rather than a barrier to human communication?
