Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, Dr. Nicodemos Damianou, is on an official visit to Doha, Qatar, accompanied by the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to Qatar and a business delegation.
According to a Deputy Ministry press release, the 9 and 10 November visit is part of the strategic strengthening of Cyprus-Qatar bilateral relations and the further deepening of cooperation with the Gulf states, particularly in the fields of technology, innovation, as well as business and investment relations.
During the visit, the Deputy Minister will have a series of contacts with government officials, academic and research institutions, organizations and business entities of the State of Qatar. He will have a private meeting with his Qatari counterpart, Minister of Information and Communications Technologies, Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai, on issues related to the digital programme of the two countries, as well as the prospects for bilateral cooperation in the field of digital transformation.
Separate meetings will be held with the National Cybersecurity Authority, the National Council for Research, Development and Innovation of Qatar, as well as with Qatar University and Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
The Deputy Minister will also have contacts among others with the Qatar Financial Centre and the Qatari Businessmen Association.
He will also deliver a keynote speech at a Business Forum, with the participation of businesses and entities from the technology ecosystems of the two countries.
"Cyprus, leveraging its geostrategic and upgraded geopolitical position as a bridge between Europe, the Middle East and the Arab world, is establishing itself as a reliable partner in the region. The upcoming Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus of the Council of the European Union in 2026 gives additional importance to these initiatives, strengthening Cyprus' international voice and opening up new prospects for cooperation and development," the press release concludes.
