Chief Scientist and Chairman of the Research and Innovation Foundation Demetris Skourides and Director General of the RIF Theodoros Loukaidis participated in the 23rd Science and Technology in Society Forum that was organised by the Japanese government in Japan.
According to a press release by the Foundation, the Forum was attended by representatives of governments, funding agencies, universities, distinguished researchers and businesses.
Skourides and Loukaidis participated in a roundtable discussion of R&I funding agencies on the development of diverse mechanisms and pathways for research and impact in the era of artificial intelligence.
The Cypriot delegation held a series of meetings, including with the Director General of the Joint Research Centre, of the European Commission, the President of the Austrian Science Foundation, the Director General of the CDTI of Spain, the Chief Scientist of Canada, the Director of the Slovenian funding agency, the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Technology Research Council, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Japan, officials from funding agencies from Indonesia, Singapore Thailand and the Philippines.
They also participated in discussions on issues related to the development of research talent in the era of AI, the transformation of financial institutions, regenerative medicine, and the use of AI to support people with disabilities.
Finally, they attended a lecture by the 2025 Nobel Prize laureates in Chemistry, Kitagawa and Yaghi, on the future of molecular architecture, as well as a speech by the White House Director for Science and Technology Policy, Michael Kratsios.
