Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou has inaugurated the upgraded Nicosia Municipal and Olympic Swimming Pool, stating that the project constitutes a significant investment in the sports infrastructure of the capital and the country, as well as practical proof of the state's commitment to offering citizens modern and, above all, safe sports facilities.
"The Nicosia municipality and the entire district have, once again, acquired a training and entertainment space, a modern and high-standard infrastructure, which will offer our young people incentives to turn to sports, while simultaneously supporting the action and training needs of sports clubs in the capital," the Ministry of Interior said.
According to the Minister, the completion of the first phase of work included the complete reconstruction of all swimming pools and outdoor areas, the construction of a new services building at the Olympic Swimming Pool and the installation of a photovoltaic system, which constitutes "an important step towards the overall upgrade."
Ioannou stated that in the next stage, with the remodeling of the interior spaces, the energy upgrade and the installation of new infrastructure, it will be ensured that the Swimming Pool will meet modern needs and requirements for the coming decades.
In his speech, Ioannou also referred to other plans promoted by the Government, such as the upgrading and modernisation of existing sports facilities and the creation of new sports infrastructure, aimed at both professional and amateur athletes as well as citizens for entertainment purposes and the formation of mass sports programs, with the aim of strengthening the principles of fair play and fair competition.
He, in addition, referred to plans to increase the number and strengthen the institution of sports schools, investing in lifelong exercise, the cultivation of the spirit and the body, with the aim of all-round shaping of the children's personality and the creation of active citizens and the strengthening of competitive sports, so as to develop for our athletes the necessary conditions for them, for distinctions at the national and international level.
