President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, will visit Cyprus on Monday, 15 September, the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides has announced, adding that one of the issues he will discuss with Costa is Cyprus' efforts within the Presidency of the Council of the EU to further strengthen EU assistance in the great effort for the green transition.
The President was speaking during the inauguration ceremony of the first photovoltaic park of the Municipality of Aradippou, in the Larnaca district.
“The Republic of Cyprus will be called upon, within the framework of its Presidency, to manage the Multiannual Financial Framework and within it the Cohesion Fund,” he said.
“It is, one of our key priorities, to further strengthen the EU’s assistance in this great effort for the green transition”, he said, noting that the President of the European Council is expected to arrive in Cyprus on Monday. “One of the issues we will discuss is the planning for these very important issues concerning the EU”, he said.
Our goal, he added, is to achieve climate neutrality, sustainable development and by extension, substantial improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants of all of Cyprus, said President Christodoulides, adding that the State supports and promotes initiatives for the creation of photovoltaic parks.
He added that “today is a milestone for Local Government in our country, as it proves in practice that local authorities can play a leading role in the green transition of our country, actively contributing to the implementation of national and European goals for 2030”. He noted that Aradippou becomes the first municipality in Cyprus to acquire its own photovoltaic park.
He added that this this was “a very important energy infrastructure”, which provides both environmental and economic benefits, reducing the Municipality’s energy costs and enhancing its energy self-sufficiency.
