The American Medical Center (AMC) has organised a by-invitation-only musical event, 'Concert in the Forest', to draw attention to the unique beauty of Cyprus' natural environment and the mountain areas in particular.
Due to take place in Platres on 14 September, 'Concert in the Forest' is an open-air musical evening with the Orchestra of the Cyprus Academy of Music, under the direction of Maestro Yiannis Hadjiloizou, performing popular classics.
Speaking to InBusinessNews about the endeavour, founder and chairman of the board of the American Medical Center/American Heart Institute Dr Marinos Soteriou, pictured above, explained, “The area where the classical music concert will be held has a small capacity so the festival is not open to the public. Personal invitations will be handed out for 260 places.” The event will also feature a cocktail reception.”
Soteriou elaborated on the event’s aims, saying, “The organisation wants to showcase Cypriot forests and nature and the mountainous areas of the island, since Troodos, from a geological viewpoint, is a unique phenomenon in the world.”
He pointed out that every year, geology students from Imperial College London booked an entire mountain area hotel and spent a significant number of days studying the unique qualities of the Troodos range.
“Geologists from all over the world come to study it,” Soteriou said, noting the experts had the opportunity to see rocks that would otherwise only be found 10-20 kilometres below the oceanic crust.
“When the African plate collided with the Eurasian plate, parts of the oceanic crust along with rocks from the upper mantle, i.e. the bowels of the Earth, were overturned and raised to the surface,” he added.
An encounter with music, shaped by care
Meanwhile, an announcement on 'Concert in the Forest' notes, "The Concert in the Forest is not only a cultural event, but also part of the American Medical Center’s Social Responsibility initiatives, reflecting a commitment to fostering connection and well-being beyond the clinical setting."
It continues, "In the heart of Platres, the forest becomes a natural stage. A place where music is not limited to performance, but opens a space for reflection, dialogue, and shared humanity. Here, art meets care, and the act of listening becomes a reminder of the values that sustain us: quality, compassion and respect for life."
AMC also points out that, "This initiative marks the first step in a broader vision: the creation of a cultural institution that will grow into a Platres classical music and Jazz festival welcoming musicians, composers, and artists from Cyprus and abroad. Over time."
